Introducing Atlas for New Study Budgeting & Planning

By Adam Weisman, Co-founder and CEO

Oracle ClearTrial has been the default way sponsors plan a trial for over 20 years — a planning architecture built in 2004. It was designed for one audience: clinical operations. The job was detailed, procedure-level costing to support RFPs and CRO negotiations.

That fidelity matters. It always has, at the right time. But finance leaders responsible for 1- and 3-year plans need defensible numbers earlier, well before protocols are locked, before contracts exist, before clinical ops has finished its own detailed build. Today, those leaders face the same choice for every new trial: build a complex, driver-based model from scratch — which demands granular inputs few teams actually have — or reach for the nearest analog: last year's spreadsheet from whatever past study looks closest, often stale, or not analogous at all.

Today, we're launching the Atlas Trial Planning Suite. Because the earliest numbers in a trial deserve the same rigor as the last ones. Auxilius already runs the platform you rely on once a trial is live. Atlas extends our platform earlier to power the budgeting and benchmarking that happens before a study starts.

The premise of Atlas is ambitious. We set out to bridge the divide between fast, directional long-range planning and detailed, precise contracting — serving sponsors end-to-end, with the right fidelity at the right time, on one platform. We built it for finance leaders who need a defensible number early, and we're building the same foundation to serve clinical ops' need for contracting-grade precision as that plan matures. That means building from procedure- and visit-level assumptions (not a top-line average) with well over 100 inputs open to your own overrides, the same rigor RFPs and CRO negotiations have always demanded.

Atlas builds a defensible budget in under 10 minutes

Atlas turns about 15 inputs — phase, indication, patient count, sites, countries, duration — into a study budget you can stand behind. Clone a plan, adjust site count or region, or compare scenarios side by side just as fast. No blank spreadsheet, no waiting on clinical ops for a first number.

Behind that speed is real data: proprietary, multi-source benchmark rates indexed by indication, phase, and region, giving you an independent, defensible view of what a study should cost — plus something no benchmark database has: your own historic study data, structured and unlocked for reuse. If you've run 40 trials, Atlas can build your next budget from what those 40 trials actually cost, not an industry average. That edge compounds with every trial you run: history that's simply never been structured for reuse until now.

Your plan doesn't stop working when the study starts

We're committed to helping you build the most accurate study plan possible. But even the best plan is wrong the moment the study starts. That's always been the problem with planning tools: they stop serving you right when you need them most.

Not true with Auxilius. Our core platform was built to manage active studies, so we stay with you as enrollment runs ahead of or behind assumptions, sites activate late, protocols get amended, and your CRO disappoints, feeding a live forecast and accrual record from first estimate to the last invoice. Atlas builds your plan, gaining precision as the protocol firms up. Auxilius makes sure it keeps evolving once the study starts.

Atlas is just the beginning. Our goal: one platform holding every dollar of trial spend — planned, contracted, tracked, and closed — on a single thread of data.
